Wembley Park is strongly influenced by Humphry Repton, one of the great landscape designers of the 18th century, who laid out the original estate over 200 years ago. Known for his endless vistas, Repton combined simple, sweeping landscapes with a more naturalistic approach. He brought nature into the heart of the city with his beautiful London garden squares.
Wembley Park is now home to more than 10,000 residents – compared to just 100 in Repton’s days – and a strong community thrives here. It is a key area of focus for Brent as it celebrates its year as London’s Borough of Culture. Inspired by Repton, Kirk Nelson has played a key part in the transformation of Wembley, leading LDA Design’s work to create inviting, high-quality public realm where neighbours can easily meet. On this short tour of Wembley Park, Kirk will reveal how Repton’s spirit lives on in creating a lively place where people belong.
